I won't go back

In the search for my next vehicle I actually found it on car Gurus. However, when I contacted the seller through the platform I was categorically told they had no such vehicle for sale. Now I feel I can't trust anything about car Gurus. Shame because it's search/refinement options were excellent and the app easy to use. I won't go back

I bought a car at Cargurus after selling one and I am glad that I got it for a reasonable price, but I don't like the constant phone calls.

Sadly, a waste of time

I’ve been trying to purchase a vehicle for a couple of weeks now… the problem with Cargurus is the sellers that list on their site. Every single seller I’ve evaluated (dozen's - my eyes can’t take any more) is dishonest and/or deceptive. The “price rating” is completely useless. Let’s say a particular dealer is selling vehicles in truly excellent condition.. their listings might be rated, “good” or “great deal”.. and sure, if you could purchase the vehicle for that price, you would be getting a good or great deal. What I’ve found is they have no intention of selling the vehicle at that price, even after adding $1000 for their “processing.” Once they find out you’re not going to pay for an extended warranty, a high interest loan, or various other fees, they don’t want your business… the car will magically be unavailable, they’ll try to sell you something else, or whatever it takes to make you leave… they don’t make enough $ selling to educated buyers. They know someone will end up paying $6000 more… even if they can’t afford it. Top notch used cars are in short supply. $2000 profit is not enough, because the time it takes to refill the inventory is longer than the time it takes for the next inexperienced customer that earns them a solid $8000 profit. Any dealer that actually sells vehicles at the “great deal” prices is still making $6000+ because they’re selling crap… these are the cars that look great, but the day after you drive it home, the check engine light comes on, the brakes fail, the transmission freezes, timing belt breaks, and/or the roof leaks, etc. etc. etc. They buy wrecked vehicles at auction, but only the ones where the extent of the damage doesn’t appear on the carfax report. There are endless tricks, and each dealer specializes in at least one. I could write for the next 12 hours and not be done… for example.. some dealers list hybrid vehicles as having traditional gas engines.. this gets their listing a “great deal” when it would otherwise be “fair” or “overpriced”. I have to put the blame on Cargurus as much as I put it on the dealers. Cargurus (or someone else) could prevent this BS, however, it would eliminate 75% or more of their clients who can’t survive by being honest.

Super helpful site with huge inventory…

Super helpful site with huge inventory and great filtering capabilities to help you find the best deals on exactly the kind of car you want or to find which dealers have the precise options you want if you're picky like me. My one frustration is with their email alerts. My saved search is super specific about the exterior and interior colors I am interested in and they seem to send me every new listing they get that is the make and model I expressed interest in. They should be able to filter out the ones I've already told them I'm not interested in. That said, great site overall that helped me find my car!
