LearnWorlds vs. Thinkific

LearnWorlds is a online learning platform similar to Thinkific. It has made good advancements in some areas but falls short in a few key areas. LearnWorlds has 3 plans starting from $29 - $299 per month. The Pro Trainer plan which costs $99 /month does not give API access and has limited functionality. So if you're serious about starting an online e-learning website I would suggest you go with the Learning Center plan which will set you back $299 per month or $3,600 per year. This is a significant amount of money for most people but it wouldn't be outrageous if LearnWorlds was a mature platform. The biggest con I see with LearnWorlds is that the "Community" feature needs a lot of work. For one, the site admin should be able to give the instructor permission to create a community and link the community with his course. Community creation should not be limited to site admin only. Additionally, it should be possible for instructors to moderate the communities they create. While I was told that LearnWorlds is currently working on an automation feature that would allow the admin to enroll any user who purchases Course X in Community Y the community creation process and moderation is still limited to the site admin only. Most importantly, the community UI needs to be enhanced. I think a good starting point would be to look at Thinkific's community UI and try to replicate it. Thinkfic's community design is much more elegant and most importantly MUCH more intuitive. Finally, one should be able to manage the community (including community creation and moderation) via a Community API (I know Thinkific is in the process of creating a Community API but it is in beta). Learn Worlds API is lacking is other areas too. For example, when the API returns the course data (via GET A COURSE call) it does not return the User ID of the instructor who created the course. LW neither allows instructors to create a preview which can be retrieved via API. All of these features should be standard considering that a client on the Learning Center plan is paying close to $4,000 a year for API access. All in all I think Learn Worlds is a decent learning platform but they have a way to go to catch up with Thinkific in the areas mentioned above. The good news is that since they are a relatively new company they tend to listen to their customer requests more frequently than lager more established companies. Right now my hands are tied to see which features they will implement.

Great Potential. Underdeveloped Platform.

I started using LearnWorlds after being bombarded with LearnWorlds ads on Google and other marketing messages. LearnWorlds is very good at self promotion. After using the platform for almost a month I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand LearnWorlds was the first e-learning platform to introduce advance features such a branded mobile app. On the other hand it is missing certain basic features (read more below). While Learn Worlds offers many advanced features such as a branded mobile app, they’re lacking certain basic features that other platforms have from day one. For example, there is no native function for students to leave reviews for courses (other than setting up a quiz) nor is there a way to retrieve student review data via the LearnWorlds API. Similarly, while LW generally has a robust API it doesn’t return certain basic information about courses. For example, when returning course data it doesn’t return the User ID of the instructor(s) who created the course. It only returns the author’s name and avatar. What if we need to get other info about the course’s author such as bio, location etc? LW API doesn’t support it. Additionally, it shouldbe possible for instructors to upload a "preview" (or "trailor") and an option to retrieve this via LW API. If we want to embed a preview of the course in an external site (like WordPress), it can’t be done with LW. In contrast, Thinkific’s API supports all of these operations. Considering LW charges customers $300/month for API access this feature should come standard. I also think LearnWorlds needs to work on the UI of the course player and communities a little more, particularly the layout of the Q&A section. They should take a page out of the playbook of Udemy and Thinkific for UI design. Overall, I find the LearnWorlds UI to be good but not good enough (I think Thinkific & Udemy has a much better UI) All in all, LearnWorlds is a decent e-learning platform but they have to work on ironing the design as well as some of the more basic functions before moving onto more advance functionality. Ultimately, I’ve cancelled my LW subscription and I’m looking to switch to Thinkific. If LW can address all of the above concerns I would consider switching back to them. I give customer service 4/5 star rating. I give UI 2.7/5 star rating. I give features 2.9/5 star rating. Overall, I give this platform a 3.2/5 star rating.

The customer service team was fabulous

The customer service team was fabulous. I had a time sensitive issue and they responding quickly and effectively - such a relief! We enjoy using the platform and really look forward to new upgrades - always something useful.

Available 24 hours via email for urgent problems

I experienced an urgent problem that required an urgent solution. It happened after working hours (in my timezone) and the issue was not a quick fix. While I was sleeping, they escalated the problem to their development team. In the end, everything was resolved the next day. Their customer support team is available 24 hours via email. Zoom calls need to be scheduled for important but less urgent matters. Urgent requests via email are prioritized, and all others have been answered to my satisfactory in a timely manner. I've worked with Leanrworlds for almost half a year now, and they are very patient and friendly. They are always taking my feedback into consideration for improving their platform.

Great Potential, but some things missing

Tried LearnWorlds to see if they would be an alternative to Kajabi... They are close, but some key things are missing. What is great: - own white-label app - interface is clean and quick - lots of quiz options - interactive video - page builder better than Kajabi's - cool ebooks 3 main things are missing compared to Kajabi: - own email marketing system - automations based on tagging - customer support live chat Other features that would be nice: Better Gamification - customisation of badges and badges based on course completion (not only social stuff) - challenges, leader board, sharing progress etc - Being able to add a custom sound when an assessment/exam is passed or failed (like Duolingo) - in general sounds + point counting would be cool (like in gamified Apps like Duolingo etc) Better App - now full screen for video in App? - with subtitles there seem to be problems on desktop and also in App... can't see them because of the playbar - app is very very simple compared to desktop The Community is not very developed: - Can’t upload a video to post (or record) - Not able to add an image or audio or video when commenting on someone else’s post - would be nice to have a live chat in community - Can’t pin a post to the top - would be awesome to create quizzes inside community - Don’t understand the “best of” button in the community... what's that for? It's confusing Others:
 - when importing a Word file as ebook it gets completely messed up (tables etc)... it would be much better to be able to import a PDF - no refund possible right in platform - no affiliate coupons available (provide better tracking than affiliate links) - no upsell/downsell + order bump available - not being able to import sections from another page - not being able to add the navigation menu on top even when inside a course - not being able to move the “discuss” (comments) section under the video/lesson instead of the left side - current date should automatically be added to the certificate (without asking the student for it... it's a bit strange) So overall, LearnWorlds has A LOT of potential and will keep an eye on them...They've been growing so much over the last few years, it's very impressive. However, for now, it's not worth switching for us.
