Last Homestead Reviews from Trustpilot

Account closed 2yrs ago and they charged my cc $247.00. Tells me no funds were taken from this account, yet the 247.00 is taken again from my cc. Spoke to Angie, no help. Reported fraud from this company, contacted BBB.

I'm a web developer and I my client was using this platform prior to hiring me to move him over to a modern website built on Wordpress. He had his domain name registered with these guys, and when we were ready to go live I pointed the DNS to Cloudflare and brought the new site live. Since you continue to pay the 10 dollars a month whether you are hosting a website with Homestead or just have your domain name registered there I encouraged him to transfer his domain name over to GoDaddy. He wasn't technically savvy enough to attempt that so he made me a delegate on his GoDaddy account so I could complete the transfer. I started the process but Homestead kept sending an incorrect authorization code. I called them, and the tech walked me through the issue - thinking it was my fault... it was not... they have a glitch with their domain registrar (TuCows) and said they would escalate the issue to them and that they would be getting me a corrected auth code. It's been over a week and they still have not responded and now this morning I'm trying to call them (they should have been open an hour ago) and their phone system says they are closed. This is all after sending an RE: to the technician who sent me the information about the code FOUR days ago - with no answer. My honest opinion this is a micky mouse operation, with terribly outdated technology, nobody should even consider using this platform if you want to build an effective website.

So, giving an unbiased review can sometimes be tough for me. I have both Homestead and GoDaddy so I'll use that comparison. I can say with confidence that while you'll pay a bit more (for example you'll pay about 275 annually for the Business package with Homestead vs around 175 annually for a similar package with GoDaddy's builder called GoCentral) if you're building one site, the Business package with Homestead you get unlimited sites! So you just have to pay for the domains. Homestead WebsiteBuilder has a bit more functionality than GoDaddy's GoCentral, but it can be a bit more difficult to learn. It's not hard by any means, but still a steeper curve than GoCentral. Many (if not all, honestly) of the "HORRIBLE OMG" reviews are gonna be user error and people that don't care to manage their account or are just lazy or incompetent. If you run a business, it's your job as the business owner to maintain and manage your online presence. If you get charged for a renewal and you don't know about it, THAT IS YOUR OWN FAULT. Some call Homestead the "Fisher Price" of hosting because it doesn't have any advanced functionality like wordpress hosting, database or file management. If you're just needing a basic site or to sell a few products online and have little or no tech knowledge but you're willing to learn, homestead is going to be PERFECT for you. If you need that advanced functionality, Homestead isn't for you. Then again you probably already know that. AS FOR THEIR SUPPORT: Here's the deal with that. Call in during business hours. It's not hard. Talking to someone on a phone is not a difficult process. It's a small team so you gotta be patient when on hold. Don't be an assh*le to the rep and I *PROMISE YOU* they'll go out of their way to help you. I've always had VERY positive experiences with them.

Hey - Like I said, I have been a customer since the beginning when it was done out of his garage and most happy

We have about 10 websites on Homestead. We find their 800# support people pretty good. It does have some minor limitations but we like it. The service is reliable. We are not crazy about the online sitebuilder and prefer to use the sitebuilder on laptops, but they continue to support both platforms. It's not bleeding edge but you can get a good looking site with good support for a reasonable cost.
